The deck is the cheapest memory gym in the world
Memorise by zone, not by card; the flip count is the true progress bar.
Pair-matching card games get dismissed as children's fare, yet they are among the few games that measure your progress with a real number: the number of flips needed to clear the board. Thirty on day one; twenty-six next week; twenty-one next month. No training app, no subscription, and the progress bar is the table itself.
The fastest technique is not memorising every card but memorising by zone: top-left owns the reds, the middle strip owns the blacks. The brain keeps spatial information better than lists, so split the board into four regions and tie each to one easy label. On bigger boards add a second layer: which card was just turned in which region.
Ten minutes a day is enough, and this is one of the rare drills you can share with a colleague without a long rules explanation. It is also one of the few games where the loser still has fun, because every wrong flip hands both players a new piece of information about the board. That is why the game has survived forty years in every portal, and will outlive the rest.
